How to get started
... The home page of the Index is http://www.cagle.com --start here; this page is shown below. The whole site is kid-safe and RASCI rated --there is no harm done in allowing students to roam around --but our lesson plans focus on the the parts of the site that deal with newspaper editorial cartoonists. Our front page is always changing, but students will always start at the upper left corner of the page by clicking on the "Daily Editorial Cartoons" button. You have a choice of frames or non-frames versions. |

| Clicking on the "Daily Editorial Cartoons" brings you to the page shown below --scroll down past the feature cartoon and you will see the directory of our cartoonists as shown below. We are adding new participating cartoonists all of the time so the list will change. |

|
Click on each of the cartoonists' name links to go to a page featuring their latest cartoon. These cartoons change each day. We currently have eighteen frame-free pages of updating editorial cartoons, each with about three cartoons per page. Students should start on the first page and click on the yellow arrows to loop through all eighteen pages. We also include a complete listing of all of the editorial cartoonists who have work on the web. The "By State" listing will make it possible for students to find their local cartoonist. If your local newspaper cartoonist is not listed, she probably doesn't have a web site. Let us know if you know of a cartoonist we have not listed. These directories are listed in the yellow navigation column on the left. Also, under the Editorial Cartoonists heading in the navigation column is a complete directory of newspaper editorial cartoonists' e-mail addresses --including the e-mail addresses for cartoonists who do not have work on the web. Cartoonists are usually very friendly and responsive to e-mail inquiries, but please don't give all of your students an assignment to write to a cartoonist --too much mail can be a major problem. This is a screen shot from one of our non-frames cartoon pages ... |

| There is a yellow arrow at the top and bottom which will take you to the next page of cartoons and loop you through the entire set. Under the "Daily Editorial Cartoons" is a link to our frames page. Below is a screenshot of the frames page: |
|
The frames page loads faster and is a good choice if you have specific cartoonists whose work you would like your students to check regularly. All of the same cartoons are in the frames version. Click on each cartoonists' name to display her cartoon. Click on one of these icons in the navigation column on each
page in the Teacher Guide: We're just getting started --we will continue to add lesson plans as we get new ideas and suggestions from you. Each lesson plan is in standard format and can be printed out from your browser program, along with all the related student handouts. Thanks so much!
